Route 66, the mother road

ROUTE 66, THE MOTHER ROAD!!! πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ

(Excerpts from the epic road journey of Pam, Andi, Leas from Switzerland which lasted for a total of 6 years. They are back to their hometown in Switzerland in early June 2020)

The world famous Route 66 was established on November 11, 1926 and originally ran from Chicago (Illinois) all the way over to Santa Monica in Los Angeles County (California), covering a total of 3940km (2448 miles)!

US 66 served as a primary route for those who migrated west, especially during the Dust Bowl of the 1930s, and the road supported the economies of the communities through which it passed. People doing business along the route became prosperous due to the growing popularity of the highway, and those same people later fought to keep the highway alive in the face of the growing threat of being bypassed by the new Interstate Highway System.

Recreational Van (RV) solar circuit set-up

Solar Panel Set-up For Recreational Vehicle:

Here's one more in greater details ....

And here's one more in even greater details ....

What’s the purpose of a charge controller?
A charge controller is an important component in a battery based solar system and are not used in straight grid tie systems. The primary role is to manage charging the battery bank, prevent it from overcharging and control the rate of the current and voltage at which it charges.

Simply put, it keeps the panels from overcharging the batteries, solar panels can put out 17 volts.

Is there a way to figure out how many volts are coming off your panels?

The charger controller has Volt meters or you can use a volt meter at the panels when they are in the sun.

The following is the solar setup by Justin Parsons of New Foundland, USA. His guidelines for learning all the basics can be read on www.genericvan.life:

How to keep cool inside a van without the use of AC

Fans that cool computer are very small in size. Recycling e-waste is a good idea. They run on 12 Volts DC and have low Ampere ratings.

There's someone in Florida where temperatures mount to 95°F. He runs 6 such fans  in his small van, of which 2 fans to suck in air from outside. They run for weeks on car battery.

Also make screens for the window.
